Ingredients
For the Marinade:
2 tbsp regular soy sauce
2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp Maggi seasoning
1 ½ tbsp honey (or sugar)
2 tsp sesame oil (spicy or regular)
1 ½ tbsp black pepper
½ tsp crushed red pepper
2 garlic cloves (minced)
½ inch piece of ginger (grated)
For the Steak:
1 ½ lbs flank steak (cut into thin strips)
For the Stir-Fry:
1 tbsp oil (for cooking)
1 cup of reserved marinade (removed after cooking the meat)
1 onion (sliced)
1 red bell pepper (sliced)
1 green bell pepper (sliced)
Garlic salt (to taste)
For the Slurry:
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Marinade
In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauces, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, Maggi seasoning, honey, sesame oil, black pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic, and grated ginger.
Mix everything well and taste to adjust seasoning if needed.
Step 2: Marinate the Steak
Add the thinly sliced flank steak to the marinade.
Coat the beef thoroughly and cover it.
Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for better flavor.
Step 3: Cook the Beef
Heat a little oil in a wok or large pan over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef.
Cook for a few minutes until the beef releases its juices.
Remove about 1 cup of the marinade liquid (this will be used for the sauce later).
Continue cooking the beef for another 2 minutes until it turns brown and fully cooked.
Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
Step 4: Cook the Vegetables
Add a little more oil to the same wok.
Add sliced bell peppers and onions.
Season with a little garlic salt and stir-fry for about 5 minutes until tender.
Step 5: Make the Sauce & Finish the Dish
Return the cooked beef to the pan.
Add the reserved marinade and let it simmer.
In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tsp water to create a slurry.
Stir the slurry into the pan and let the sauce thicken for a few minutes.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy!
Serve the pepper steak over a bed of steamed white rice.
Enjoy the tender, juicy, and flavorful beef with every bite!
Final Thoughts
This Pepper Steak recipe is quick, simple, and packed with delicious flavors. The beef is tender and juicy, while the bell peppers add a fresh crunch. If you love a little spice, feel free to add extra chili flakes for some heat.
